Lenta is the largest hypermarket chain in Russia (in terms of selling space) and the country’s fifth largest retail chain (Net Sales, 2015). The company was founded in 1993 in St. Petersburg. Lenta has 142 hypermarkets in 70* cities, across Russia, and 32 supermarkets in Moscow and St. Petersburg with a total of approximately 891,995 sq.m of selling space.

The average Lenta hypermarket store has approximately 6,100 sq.m. of selling space while the average Lenta supermarket store has approximately 1,000 sq.m of selling space. The company operates and owns six distribution centers.

The company’s price-led hypermarket formats are differentiated in terms of their promotion and pricing strategies as well as their local product assortment. The company employs around 38,414 people as of 31st of December, 2015**. The company’s management team consists of local and international markets experts. Moreover, the strong analytical capability the suite provides, allows Lenta to plan and execute its strategies and tactics more effectively.
